Despite only being on the market for a few years Emma have already built a good reputation for their mattresses. They have a range of mattresses including the popular Original and the new Emma Comfort which is their flagship mattress with better back support. This mattress is designed to be firmer, with more zonal support and memory foam that hugs your body, all night.
Jess and Joseph are two parents of young children and know the value of a good night’s sleep. With their two boys now old enough to sleep in their own rooms they have been looking for a mattress that will provide them with the restful night’s sleep they deserve. When the opportunity arose to try out the Emma comfort, they were keen to see how it would compare to their previous bed.
The Emma Original is one of the most popular boxed mattresses on the market, and for good reason. It provides a firm but comfortable sleeping surface for all sleeping positions and isolates motion well so even if you share the bed with a restless partner, their movements won’t wake you up. It also has a 365-night trial period and 10-year guarantee, which is longer than the standard guarantees offered by competing mattress brands like DreamCloud and Nectar.
This Emma mattress has a breathable polyester blend cover Emma comfort review with handle straps on the sides for easier transporting. It has a zip closure and is easy to remove for cleaning or maintenance. The Emma comfort is available in a range of sizes from Single to Double and King, so it’s suitable for most beds. It can be used on a flat or slatted bed frame but we recommend you use a solid base to avoid any potential sagging over time.
When it comes to firmness, the Emma Original falls into the medium category with a rating of 5 out of 10. This is fairly close to the typical median firmness of other mattresses we’ve tested. While the top layer of memory foam will allow stomach sleepers under 230 pounds to maintain a neutral spine position, heavier sleepers may sink too deeply and put pressure on their hips and shoulders.
We put the Emma to the test in a fairly muggy fortnight in August and were impressed with how cool it kept us during the night. It didn’t feel hot or sweaty, and with a light 4.5 tog summer duvet and the window open it was perfect for a restful night’s sleep.
Our weight testing revealed that the Emma comfort was reasonably stable, with the centre and edge of the mattress sinking by less than 7cm when we placed a 56lb load on each side. This is an excellent result and a big tick for Emma, especially as other mattresses in the same price range have sunk up to 8cm on the edges.
Sagging is a common issue with all foam mattresses but the sturdy polyfoam layer and transition layers of the Emma comfort are solid enough to prevent any significant sagging. This makes it a good choice for couples who share the bed, particularly those who are heavier or sleep on their stomachs or backs.
